A Great Quote

“You're never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read to a child.”
- Dr. Seuss

I really like this quote because so many adults do not take the time to read to a child. When I read, I act out each part of the book. If the character changes in a story, my voice changes each time. I love being silly and creative; this gives the child something to look forward to every time I read to them. I once had a child in my room and she/he always brought a book over to me. I said, "Hey would you like me to read this book to you;" she/he shook their head, yes. Well, I later found out that she/he did not have any books at home to read. Wow, I knew she/he enjoyed listening to me read a book; but I never knew she/he did not have books to read away from school. Parents, literature is vital to the social development of a child. It helps to increase communication and socialization. Please do not be afraid to read, it is one of the best things you can do to aid in the development of your child.

Me in my Classroom

My Favorite Children's Books

I love so many books. I enjoy reading books by Dr. Seuss, Debbie Bailey, and Sandra Boynton, especially "Barn Yard Dance."  All of Dr. Seuss books are very exciting to read. He gives you something to look forward to while reading. He makes his words jump off the page and it allows you to interact with the book. I love being interactive and excited when reading. Sandra Boynton books are simply fun to read. She always has animals acting silly and that is creative. Like Me!! I enjoy Debbie Bailey books because of all the realistic pictures. Her books show how real families look. She has many diverse pictures and multicultural families in her books. The Playground, Families, Sisters and Brothers are a few of the ones I have in my classroom.
