“You're never too old,
too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read to a child.”
- Dr. Seuss
I really like this quote
because so many adults do not take the time to read to a child. When I read, I
act out each part of the book. If the character changes in a story, my voice
changes each time. I love being silly and creative; this gives the child
something to look forward to every time I read to them. I once had a child in
my room and she/he always brought a book over to me. I said, "Hey would
you like me to read this book to you;" she/he shook their head, yes. Well,
I later found out that she/he did not have any books at home to read. Wow, I
knew she/he enjoyed listening to me read a book; but I never knew she/he did
not have books to read away from school. Parents, literature is vital to
the social development of a child. It helps to increase communication and
socialization. Please do not be afraid to read, it is one of the best things
you can do to aid in the development of your child.
You really like Dr. Seuss don't you. The quote is great.
ReplyDeleteYou should create a take home a book program or activity so that parents could take home a book to read and complete an activity associated with it.Some parent's don't realize the importance and to make it a great at home activity may be and option to help them see that, maybe.
That is a great idea. Thanks.

DeleteLove your quote, especially from Dr. Seuss. I my daycare, we have a special library in which the parents can borrow a book. I love to read to children, for my own pleasure or even to my niece. I have so many books that I was banned from buying more and leaving them at the center. In my house I don't have space neither. Shame!!
ReplyDeleteHello Lah-Lah, I agree with your statement. I have a child in my classroom that disrupts the circle during story time every day. I pulled the child from the group after a week straight and I asked the child why does she not like story time? She answered me and said I do not like when all the kids are sitting still listening to the story because they always talk about this is my favorite story that my mommy reads me or that is my favorite story that my daddy reads me. No one reads to me when I get home or even pays me any attention so I don't want to hear a story and don't want the other kids to hear the story either. I was so hurt when I heard this but I was not surprised. So now I take extra time out for cuddles and stories and we chose a different child each day to chose the story and everyone gets a chance to hug that child for the day.
ReplyDeleteWow, that is very sad to hear; but I am glad that you created a new experience for that little girl. I am sure her behavior during group time is much better.
